Wednesday, April 08 at 09:46

Small Business Saturday UK launched the 2015 Inspire Series last week with a workshop led by Kate Tyler of Shake Social in the lovely Debbie Bryan shop and tea rooms in Nottingham’s Lace District. The workshop, entitled ‘Exceptional customer service via social media’ provided in-depth guidance for small businesses looking to improve their social media engagement with customers. Kate went beyond the basics of how to deal with customer complaints – showing how small businesses can use consistently exceptional service to delight their customers, grow their business and make their brand stand out. Here are some of the key take-aways from the talk:
  • Social media is a two way street: Small businesses should engage with their customers and respond to customer service queries in a unique, personal and timely fashion. Social media is not just a platform for marketing a business, it is a great tool for starting and continuing conversations.
  • Care about your customer: Keep your customer at the heart of everything that you do. Design your user journey with customers in mind to make it as easy as possible to navigate. Remember to say ‘thank you’ and check in regularly. Small businesses can excel by using a personal touch.
  • Be exceptional: Think of unique and meaningful ways to engage with customers, build brand ambassadors and generate PR opportunities. Stand out from competitors with exceptional customer service so people have a reason to talk about you and feel loyal to your brand.
