Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses. In 2016 Small Business Saturday took take place on Saturday, December 3rd.
Mich has been Director of Small Business Saturday in the UK since its beginnings in 2013. Mich is a strategist by trade and has spent many years helping businesses succeed. When not leading the charge for small business and digital engagement across the country, Mich can be found running marathons, cycling, swimming in the sea or enjoying a nice glass of vino in her local (independent) pub.
Mich was awarded MBE for Services to Enterprise in the Queen's Birthday Honours, summer of 2015.
Claire is the Deputy Director of Small Business Saturday and gets involved in most aspects of the campaign. She has over six years' experience in project and account management across the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors and has a passion for working with organisations of all sizes to help small businesses thrive. Claire hails from Upstate New York and moved across the pond to study. Outside of work she can be found travelling, training for her next marathon and exploring London.
Tom built his career in the retail sector, which has provided skills that get put to good use running the bus tour and local authority relationships for Small Business Saturday. He particularly loves the opportunities the bus tour offers to sample the UK's fine food and drink! A lifetime supporter of small business butchers, along with his two labradors, Tom is the heart and soul (food) of the team.
Small Business Saturday’s PR Guru Howard has nearly 30 years' experience of both big blue chips and SMEs. Howard is also an author - his first two novels are available from all good book shops, third one on the way. A passionate advocate of herbal tea, he is so addicted to his smartphone, it may need to be surgically removed.
The other half of Small Business Saturday’s crack PR team, Krishan has handled media relations for a variety of organisations, from multi-national corporations to small independents - specialising in delivering high-impact press coverage. When he isn’t beating the rest of the Small Business Saturday team at ping-pong, Krish enjoys football, travelling and music.
Richard joined us after cutting his teeth in the finance industry in Paris. Now in charge of business development, he manages corporate relationships for the campaign and delights in sourcing and securing new supporters. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, music and is pretty useful on the lacrosse pitch.
Pippa is an award winning Digital Marketing Apprentice who looks after the day to day running of the Small Business Saturday's Social media accounts. When she isn't at work she enjoys being in the company of her family, friends and of course her cat!
Hannah is a trained writer and filmmaker who passionately believes in the work that small businesses do. Having worked for many independent companies (and also for herself) she wanted to join the campaign to champion small businesses and help create video content for those who feel they might not be able to afford it.
Ken is the Small Business Saturday King of all things IT. Although a Web Developer at heart, Ken is a certified Technical Project Manager with over 10 years' experience working in the IT Industry. Taking time away from the computer, Ken cycled across the continent of Africa between 2010 and 2012 in aid of orphaned street children, volunteering at local charities along the way - many of whom he is still an active supporter of.
